Combine level of threat with your initial assessment. As a reminder:
- Identify your environment
- Identify the number of people involved with the specific threat
- Identify your exits
- Is the person(s) known to you?
- Is the violence directed at you or a loved one or someone you do not know?
Situational identification is a skill that can be continually improved upon and will help you stay calmer during a situation that might be out of your control. Remember to continually scan and talk to yourself (out loud if necessary) to ensure you are breathing during the arising situation.
